
Getting Your Blow Molding Heat Just Right
The trick with blow molding is all about the balance. You need enough heat to get those PET preforms soft and pliable, but if you overdo it, you’re just burning your plastic. That’s where our tungsten halogen lamps come in. They use shortwave infrared radiation to hit the resin directly. The result? Your oven warms up way faster, and you aren’t wasting energy heating up the air around the bottle. Talking Power and Heat Depending on how your machine is set up, we can tweak the wattage and voltage to fit. If you go with high-voltage options—like 230V or 400V—you can push more power through a single tube. Take a 2500W tube, for example. It’s a total powerhouse. But a heads-up: when you’re pumping out that much heat, you’ve got to make sure your cooling fans can keep up. Otherwise, your oven housing is going to get way too hot. The Build We wrap the heating element in high-purity quartz glass. To make things even more efficient, we often add a special coating. It basically acts like a mirror, pushing the heat forward into the preform instead of letting it soak back into the lamp holders. As for the fit, we use R7s or Sk15 bases. They’re simple, drop-in replacements that work with most standard machines. They snap in tight, so you don’t have to worry about them vibrating loose when the machine is humming along at full speed. Keeping Things Running Smoothly The best part is how these lamps kill those annoying “cold spots.” If you’re seeing uneven heating, you can just adjust the lamp position or the wattage until the preform looks perfect. But here’s the thing: these tubes live in a rough environment. To keep them from burning out early, you’ve got to keep the quartz clean. Seriously. Even a fingerprint or a smudge of oil can create a hot spot that cracks the glass. Just stick to a regular cleaning schedule, and your filaments will last a lot longer.
