
Let’s Talk Halogen Tube Heat Lamps
If you need to move heat—and move it fast—halogen tubes are your best bet. They use shortwave infrared energy to hit your target material directly. No waiting around for air to warm up. It’s just fast, concentrated heat. The Power Side of Things We build these lamps with different wattages and voltages so they actually fit your machine’s power rail. Here is the trick: if you’re running a 400V system, you can cram more wattage into a shorter tube. That gives you a much tighter heat footprint. It’s great when you need to blast a tiny area with intense heat. But a word of caution. High-wattage tubes are greedy. They put a lot of stress on your transformers. And please, check your cooling fans. If they aren’t up to the task, the heat soak will just melt your sockets. Not a fun day at the office. What’s Under the Glass? The heating element lives inside a high-purity quartz envelope. We add halogen gas in there to stop the tungsten filament from evaporating and clouding up the glass. This is why the tubes stay clear and keep putting out steady heat for thousands of hours. As for the plugs, we stick with standard R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re easy drop-in replacements for PET blowing or shrink-wrap lines. They fit snug, which is exactly what you want. You don’t want your lamps rattling or arcing while the machine is shaking. Putting Them to Work You’ll mostly see these in plastic welding or PET bottle blowing. Because the radiation penetrates the plastic so quickly, your cycle times drop. You get more parts out the door, faster. Sometimes, we coat the quartz. This shifts the spectrum so the core of the plastic gets soft before the surface has a chance to scorch. It’s a bit of a trade-off, though. The coating helps the lamp last longer by stopping oxidation, but you might lose a tiny bit of that raw heat output compared to a clear tube. Most people find the trade worth it.
