Let’s be honest: keeping a Krones Contiform S line running is expensive. Especially when you look at the bill for OEM parts. It feels like a racket. We’ve put together a drop-in replacement IR lamp that does exactly what the original does—hits that same thermal profile—but without the eye-watering price tag.
Getting the heat right
The tricky part with the Contiform S is the balance. You need the PET preforms to hit that glass transition temperature perfectly. If you’re off, you’re in trouble. Too little heat and the bottle doesn’t form; too much, and you’re scorching the plastic. We build these lamps for high-voltage operation. Why? Because it keeps the wattage steady across the whole quartz tube. You need that high power density to get the job done. Just a heads-up: don’t just crank the power without double-checking your ballast settings. If you do, you’ll burn out the filament way faster than you should.
The gear inside
We use heavy-wall quartz glass. It’s tough. It can handle the thermal shock when you’re rapidly starting and stopping the line without cracking. Depending on your setup, these use R7s or Sk15 connectors, so they snap right in. But here is the real secret: we apply a special coating to the envelope. Instead of just baking the surface of the plastic, this coating shifts the infrared spectrum so the heat actually penetrates the PET wall. It stops that annoying “pearlescent” look you get when the outer layer overheats. Your bottles just look cleaner.
Swapping them out
Installation is dead simple. Pull the old tube, wire in the new one, and you’re back in business. You don’t have to mess with the oven housing or tweak your machinery. One thing to watch out for, though. High-output lamps put off a ton of heat. If your cooling fans are choked with dust or your airflow is blocked, your lamps aren’t going to last. Do yourself a favor: every time you swap a lamp, wipe down your reflectors. A dirty reflector is a waste of money. It forces the lamp to run hotter than it needs to just to hit your target temperature, which kills the bulb faster. Keep them shiny, and your parts will last longer.
