
Stop Overpaying for Your Infrared Heaters
When you’re setting up a woodworking line, the heating element is usually where you’re bleeding the most energy. Most shops just default to the big-name international brands for their infrared lamps. They work, sure. But the cost of replacement parts? That’s where it gets painful. We do things differently. We build our heaters as simple, drop-in replacements. You get the same thermal punch as those premium brands, but you aren’t paying a “luxury tax” just for a logo on the box. Getting the heat right In timber drying or glue-line work, it’s all about density. You want the wood to hit that target temperature quickly, but you don’t want to scorch the fibers. We’ve dialed in the wattage-to-length ratios so you get a clean, consistent heat. If you’re looking to speed things up, moving from a 230V setup to a 400V configuration will get you a much faster ramp-up. Just a heads-up: more voltage means more stress on your wiring. Double-check that your cabling and contactors can handle the extra current, or you’ll be dealing with burnt-out wires sooner than you’d like. Quartz and the “Skin Effect” We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the shock of being turned on and off rapidly without cracking. Depending on what you’re running, you can go with clear or coated tubes. If you’re working with hardwoods, go for the coated ones. They change how the heat penetrates the wood. Without them, you often get the “skin effect”—where the surface looks done and toasted, but the core is still ice cold. And don’t worry about a complicated install. We use standard industrial connectors. You just pull the old lamp out and plug ours in. No rewiring, no headache. Real-world shop talk These things are built for the actual shop floor. They can take the vibration and the constant rain of sawdust. But here’s the thing: infrared heat is directional. It’s like a flashlight. If your reflectors are pitted or covered in grime, even the most expensive lamp in the world is going to struggle. Do yourself a favor and wipe down your mirrors every shift. It keeps the heat flowing and your production moving.
